MLB The Show Next Gen Wishlist

With MLB the Show likely coming to next generation consoles I want to share some things that I hope that San Diego Studios add or fix within the game. With the next generation consoles San Diego Studios should have a little more room to work with as far as the software they have. Meaning they should be able to add more new things along with hopefully a better graphically looking game.

MLB 15 the Show on PlayStation 3
MLB 20 the Show on PlayStation 4

You can see the better graphic advancement from the last MLB the Show game made exclusively for the PS3 vs. the latest MLB the Show on PS4. One thing expected probably by most is for the graphics to improve.

However what I believe what makes this Baseball Sim game the best is the little things. And now with more software tools these are some things I would love to see San Diego Studios do with the next era of MLB the Show.

First I want to mention a Ballpark creator. This is something that the MLB the Show community has wanted for years now; I am thinking this is something they may be able to do finally with the new software in the Next Generation consoles.

Now something I think that they could do really well is like a sandlot mode. Think of something similar to the new mode in Madden 21, The Yard. My vision of this is an online mode where you can play with friends where you are player locked to a created player. (Like a Road to the Show character). Along with this I think it would be really cool if they could make something where you could play your Road to the Show player with friends; possibly create leagues where you could get a group of friends and all pick different positions and play games together while being player locked to your character.

Now for the smaller things related to actual gameplay:

  1. Fix the broken animations; too many times I would be playing Road to The Show and my shortstop would go to cover second base when a player was stealing and just keep running and then lock up at the edge of the field and run in place. I would be upset cause now the game is stopped and my player is running in place at the wall and in most cases the runner would end up safe because my player decided to go have a conversation with the fans during the game. This is a thing that is just bugs and I am sure they are working on improving and everybody probably experiences different things while playing.
  2. Free Camera; this is especially for Road to the Show pitchers. This year was the first time that I created a Pitcher for my Road to the Show and actually played it a lot. I wish that when I was on the mound I could get the constant free look cam and let the game playout as if I was on the field. In summary I wish there was a setting for all time free cam at least for RTTS. Instead of a cutscene every time my pitcher got a strike out or a foul ball, give me a free camera to look around my player on the field as if I was on the field. Another small camera thing (its the small things that count!) they should go back to the classic dugout camera. In MLB the Show 20 when in the dugout the camera is just outside the dugout like you are hanging out on the field. They had a camera in the older MLBs where you were actually in the dugout. I think that this is important for Road to the Show games as well as when players want to manage games.
  3. Presentation; I think the announcers could use a refresh. I’m not sure if they need a new cast or need the current cast to record some more talking points. I think the best sports game commentating that I am aware of is NBA 2k. They need to keep a good dialogue on top of the play by play. I also think they need to add more presentation options. On my Road to the Show with my pitcher I won the Cy Young prior to the season I am playing currently and now every home game I am awarded they Cy Young plaque. It was cool the first time but they need a larger variety on the presentation side of the game.

In conclusion I am excited to see what San Diego Studios can do with the next generation of consoles. They are clearly the best Baseball simulation game on the market at least for on field gameplay. If they can make a cool online mode similar to The Yard in Madden 21 on top of fixing some general bugs, make the presentation of the game better, add a ballpark creator for franchises and diamond dynasty, give more options for free cameras( at least for locked on players; in specific pitchers) I will be happy with next generation of MLB the Show.

Let me know your thoughts with a comment! Do you agree, disagree or is there something important that I missed?
